The Mérinos of Rambouillet is a race Ovin E specialized in the production of fine Laine, of Spanish origin , imported with Rambouillet in 1786.

There exists today one herd in France: that of the national Sheep-fold of Rambouillet, but this race largely served during the 19th century and as first half of the 20th century to improve the French and foreign herds.

It is a very rustic sheep, adapted well to the dry countries. Its wool is abundant, fine, elastic and resistant. The fleece, which weighs up to 8 kg in the rams, recovers all the body except for the ends of the head and the members. The males have large spiral horns with triangular section. the females do not have horns.
