Merimasku
Merimasku is small a municipality extreme south-west of the Finland, in the province of Western Finland and the area of Finland of South-west.
The commune is located in full heart of the Archipel of Turku. Except a small peninsula connected to continental Finland, the major part of the commune is formed by its 93 islands, from which 6 are inhabited all the year (the island of Otava only accounts for with it 75% of the total surface area).
The municipality, founded in 1865 per separation of with Masku (Merimasku meaning Masku-sea), failed well to disappear in the Années 1970. It counted then nothing any more but 648 inhabitants (1975). The common islander to the economy disaster victim is then saved by the construction of a bridge connecting it to Naantali, which puts it at 21 km of the center of Turku, the provincial capital. Another bridge connects it to Askainen in 2002.
Today, Merimasku is prosperous suburbs of Turku coupled to a holiday place snuffed in summer.
The only land borders are with Askainen with north (on a peninsula) and Rymättylä in the south (on the other part of the island of Otava), the other common neighbors being Masku and Naantali in the east and Velkua in the west.
