Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve is a district of the town of Montreal. It is of a surface of 24,5 km ² and has a population of 128.440 inhabitants. It is composed of three working districts, that is to say Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Draper-West and Draper-Is (that one calls also Tétreaultville), divided by the Autoroute 25.
History
The Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district was formerly one of the central points of industry montréalaise. Thanks to its access to the port, it was a district with strong working majority a long time. At the time of the economic recession, most of the factories closed and for this day, the district has crossed one difficult period marked by poverty.
