The Mercie ( Mercia in modern English, Mierce - “people of the margin” - in Anglo-Saxon) is one of the seven kingdoms of the Anglo-Saxon Heptarchie. It was founded by the Angles in 584 in the current area of the the Midlands (grounds of the medium), in England (counties current of Gloucester, Worcester, Leicester, Northampton, Bedford, Buckingham, Derby, Nottingham, Hereford, Warwick, Chester, Lincoln. It is the last kingdom of Heptarchie. Its capital was Repton.

The first known king of Merciens is Creoda (or Crida), which reaches the capacity in 585. The kingdom reaches its apogee under the reign of Offa († 796), then passes under the domination of the Wessex.

Last king de Mercie, Burgred, are driven out by the Danish at the end of the 9th century. The latter install a king in the part of Mercie which is acquired to them, while the independent remained part is henceforth controlled by a earldorman (Saxon title traditionally translated by “count”).

In 883, the count de Mercie lends allegiance to Alfred Large the, king of England. Mercie remains nothing any more but one State marionette.
