Barfleur (to pronounce //) is a common French, located in the department of the Manche and the area Basse-Normandie.
It is smallest common department of the Manche.
Barflor is today gratifiée of the label of the more beautiful villages of France, decreed by an independent association aiming at promoting the tourist assets of small rich French communes of an inheritance of quality.
Its inhabitants is called the Barfleurais .

History
In 1066, the Battle of Hastings mark the beginning of the conquest of the England by the Norman among which appear of many Cotentinais & Avranchinais. Toponymy
The toponym is of origin definitely Scandinavian, where the suffix - floth become - fleu then - flower means: river, river which is thrown in the sea, as with Honfleur, Harfleur and Fiquefleur. The R final dates only from the surroundings of XIIIe century. In the language Normand of the Cotentin, Barfleur says “Barflleu”, which decides // or more often //. Barfleurais are called then the “Barfllotais” (either //).

Barflor is a fishing port, in particular of moulds of full sea. Its center of unloads is managed by the Chamber of commerce and of industry of Cherbourg-Cotentin.

- Jean-Luc Petitrenaud (1950 -), journalist and critical gastronomical, has a second home with Barfleur.
