Mercan Dede

Arkin Allen alias Mercan Dede , or Dj Arkin Allen , born Arkın Ilıcalı is a Turkish Musicien which combines music of tradition soufie and Electronic music. A perfect symbiosis between Othoman tradition and Western modernity

Very young person, towards the 15 years age Arkin Allen undertakes the training of the Ney, long traditional flute of reed, and the percussions like the Bendir, and the Oud.

It draws its musical inspiration in the lesson of the soufi Rumi. At the end of its studies, it leaves to Canada and settles with Montreal and discovers in the musical possibilities of the music techno which has as a capacity to gather people in the euphoria of the Transe. It then founds in 1997 the Mercan Dede which also designates in Turkish a dignitary Soufi. Mercan Dede then becomes one of the most influential musicians soufi of its generation. On scene, its group includes/understands a Percussionniste, a Clarinettiste and a player of Qanun Turkish, and a Canadian beater.
