Merathon
Principle
The merathon is a discipline of the Canoe-kayak, it consists of a race long distance at sea. The distance varies according to the categories of age, but the minimum is of 10 nautical miles what represents, according to the state of the sea, of the conditions weather and the basin, approximately 2 hours of race.Let us merathons are not held in the same medium as the other competitions of Canoƫ or Kayak. At sea no banks delimiting the course, not judges on the edge of the basin and between the departure and the arrival. If the course is easy to read on the chart, it is it much less on water!
Because of this particular medium it was necessary to find a means sure to transmit information to the competitors when they are on water. The means is the same one as for the regattas with the veil, i.e. optical signals by houses. These signals are detailed in the starting and modification procedures of course.
- the juniors and juniors have courses of approximately 7.5 km
- the juniors man and lady, the seniors women: 14 km
- the seniors men, two-seater man and woman all categories: 21 km
Feelings
In addition to the management of the effort on a long distance it is thus necessary to manage its road according to the currents of tide, the wind and the state of the sea. When there is swell there is very quickly the impression to be alone on water and the marks of course become very difficult to locate. To gain in merathon in addition to being very good kayaker it is necessary to be a good sailor.
A very easy course a day can appear frightening the following day on the physical level, but also in the field of the tactic and the orientation.
