Mentque-Nortbécourt

Mentque-Nortbécourt is a common French, located in the department of the Pas-de-Calais and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

Geography

History

Mentque and Norbécourt amalgamated in 1819.
After the First World War, the war memorial is built in the middle of the plain which separates the two villages.

Places and monuments

  • the central tower of the church of Mentque, under the term of St-Leger and St-Gilles, is 12th century and the chorus with two spans dates from the 16th century. It contains a high altar and a communion table in carved oak of the 18th century.
  • La Motte Madam or Mount of justice is a feudal Motte 25 meters in diameter at its base. Located at ten meters of the church of Mentque on other side of the road, it is currently covered with vegetation.

  • the church St-Wandrille in Nortbécourt, is decorated of a tower of the 12th century.

  • the mill of Nortbécourt or Lebriez mill is a Windmill built out of hardcores limestones in 1714 (according to a date registered on a stone inside the tower). In 1897, it becomes the property of Alphonse Lebriez, who will be the miller until the stop of the activity towards 1950. In 1964, Michel Hoyez buys it and ruin saves it. This mill is registered with the Additional Inventory of the Historic buildings since 1977. The wings are given in state in December 1981. The frame not being able to swivel, they remain fixed. One of it takes even the lightning. In 1999, metal wings are assembled.
