Mentana
Mentana is an Italian commune of the Province of Rome in the Latium, located at 20 km of Rome.
Geography
History
- 799 : Mentana is the place of an interview between the pope Leon III and Charlemagne (November 23rd, 799).
- 1867 : The city was the theater of the last battle of the general Garibaldi, the battles of Mentana. November 3rd, 1867, the general Garibaldi combat in Mentana the pontifical army (of which the pontifical Zouaves) supported by French troops which protect the town of Rome. Garibaldi loses this battle because the French lay out of rifles Chassepot model 1866.

Culture
There is today in Mentana a museum in homage of the dead soldiers during the Bataille of Mentana. There is also a monument to remember this battle it.
