Memories and portraits
Memories and portraits is a whole of Essai S and Critique S Littéraire S written by Astolphe de Custine in the forms of letters at the 19th century. Its date of publication (probably after 1839) remains unknown to date. The work was known general public only in 1956 at the time of its edition by Pierre de Lacretelle.
Its perspicacity and its independence of judgment point out it in the field of literary criticism where, although allured by romantic poetry, it held the greatest place with Balzac, Stendhal, and one of its last letters was to greet the Flowers of the evil of Baudelaire.
