Memorial for Lidice

Lidice or Mémorial for Lidice (H. 296) is a symphonic work composed by Bohuslav Martinů in remembering the massacre the village Lidice. It is created on October 28th, 1943 with New York by the philharmonic orchestra under the direction of Artur Rodziński. Work is in only one movement and one 9 minutes duration. In this work, Martinů employs the topic of the destiny of the fifth symphony of Beethoven, which symbolizes here resistance against the invader Nazi.
