Melon (type of vine)
The Melon (or melon of Burgundy) is an old man Burgundian Cépage of Vigne, little used in its area of origin, but very widespread in Loire-Atlantique under the name of Muscadet (see Vignoble of the Muscadet wine).
In France, its culture occupies more than 11.000 hectares of which the major part for names Muscadet.
It is a fairly vigorous type of vine giving a regular production. It gives a pleasant and not very acid white wine.
In 1999 of the researchers of the University of California with Davis 322 samples of vine subjected to thorough genetic analyzes. In all, 16 type of vines, whose sacy, are the result of crossings between the white Gouais and Pinot. It is about the Aligoté, of the green Aubin, the Auxerrois, the black Bachet, the to beaunoir, the chardonnay, the Dameron, the black Franc of the High Saone, of the white Gamay Gloriod, the Gamay, the Knipperlé, the Peurion, the romorantin, the Roublot and the sacy.
