Mellah

Etymology
The word melh means salt in Arabic and mellah means place or one concerve products with salt, but in each city it is used to indicate the Jewish district.
Mellah de Fès
Most important of Morocco, it was besides the first Jewish district separated from the Histoire of Morocco in 1438. Mellah de Marrakech
Mellah of Marrakech was built in 1558 under the reign of Moulay Abdallah.
Mellah d' Essaouira (in the past Mogador)
In the middle of the 19th century, Mogador counted 10.000 Moslems and 17.000 Jews recluse in the mellah, the Jewish district located in the northern part of the old city.
