Melk
Melk (Austria) is a city of the Low-Austria, famous for its Benedictine abbey built in overhang of the the Danube, there is more than 1000 years. The Abbey was founded in 1089 when the Babenberg family decides to move her capital, which explains the German name of the " abbey; stift" who means gift. Two turns, only vestiges of the castle of Babenberg can still be seen. This abbey of the baroque type, rebuilt by Jakob Prandtauer, can be visited the every day and it is an ideal stage on the Road of Salzburg to Vienna.
The abbey inspired Umberto Eco for its book the Name of the pink. One of the two heroes being called besides Adso de Melk.
