Melchiorre gene
Gene " Squeaky" Melchiorre (born the August 10th 1927 with Highland Park, Illinois) is a former American player of Basket-ball of NBA and was the first choice of the draft 1951.
Beginnings
It was the fifth of six newborns of a guard who moved his family of Joliet, Illinois in Highland Park in 1936. In spite of a weak physical stature, Melchiorre excelled in all the sports to which it was tested. He played station of wingback in the football team of Highland Park, player of basketball, player of baseball, tennis player, and in the last years, golfor. After having joined the US Army, Melchiorre integrated the team of basketball of Fort Sheridan, known under the name of Ramblers , which gained 58 of 63 the one two years period matches (1945-47).
University
Melchiorre played post of leader of play to the Université Bradley of the season 1947-48 until the season 1950-51. Measuring only 1m75 for 75 kgs, it was characterized by quality from its play from master key and its capacity to be marked. During this period, Bradley gained 119 meetings all while inclining himself with 22 recoveries. He took part at the same time in the tournament NIT and final tournament NCAA in 1950, where Bradley inclined himself vis-a-vis CCNY in the two competitions. At the time of a match NIT in 1949, Melchiorre registered 71 points, the record in this competition which holds always at present.It was named in the first team of the Missouri Valley Conference with three recoveries, like in the alNIT TEAM at the time of its year junior. At the time of the season 1951, he was elected in the first team of Associated Press, United Close International and of Collars Magazine and was selected by the magazine Sports Album , like one of the two best offensive players of the country. He was also graduate in business administration .
The scandal of the faked bets
Melchiorre was implied in an enormous scandal of bets faked into 1951 which implied 7 schools and 32 players through the country and had to face charges of violations of the penal code of the State of New York. The July 24th 1951, Melchiorre and four of its fellow-members admitted admitted to have cheated at the time of the matches against the Université Saint Joseph with Philadelphia in 1951 and against the Université of State of Oregon to Chicago.Melchiorre and two of its fellow-members pled guilty in New York. Whereas they were under the threat of a three years of prison sorrow, the assistant of the prosecutor decided on a suspension.
NBA
At the conclusion of its four years course in Bradley and a suspension following this scandal, Melchiorre took part in draft NBA 1951. It was selected in the forefront of the draft by the Baltimore Bullets. Melchiorre will however not play only one minute in NBA. Its participation in the scandal banishes it with life of the NBA and lost all its distinctions in NCAA.
Except tennis shoe
He married Kay Boles in 1951. He turned over in his birthplace of Highland Park in the middle of the Années 1950, working in a post office. He worked then in an insurance company, a shop of clothing for women and finally created his shipping company. He was established with the Greater Peoria Sports Hall off Famed in 1996.
