This club gained the second championship of Australia of the league in 2006-2007 after the success of Adelaide United FC in 2005-2006.

History of the club

Melbourne Victory was founded in 2004 after the advertisement of the creation of a new whole Championnat of Australia of football after cancellation by the Fédération of Australia of football (F) of the old national competition, the National Soccer League. Victory currently counts among only eight teams taking part in this new league.

The company Belgravia Leisure Pty Ltd financially supported the club as of the first season of the A-League at the request of F. The chairman of the group Belgravie Leisure, Geoff Lord, was thus appointed the first chairman of Melbourne Victory FC. Following this decision, F publicly confirmed that Melbourne Victory would belong to the new championship as a representative of Melbourne, second city of the country in terms of population.

The Scot Ernie Merrick was gotten of Victorian Institute off Sport (Institute of sport of Victoria) to direct the club as a trainer. archie Thompson, attacking of the team of Australia of football, which played until 2005 with the Lierse SK in Belgium, was the first player to be signed at the new club. Victory signed three other international thereafter - Kevin Muscat (Australia), Richard Kitzbichler (Austria) and Geoffrey Glaeys (Belgium).

The South Korean giant of electronics, Samsung, became, the October 27th 2005 principal sponsor of the club.

Stage

Following a new record of spectators (39,730), on September 2nd, 2006, for a home match against the Sydney FC, the club announced that he would play seven of the matches in remaining residence to play at the time of the season 2006-07 in Telstra Dome of Melbourne. Only a match would be played at stage of which the club was useful until there, the Olympic Park of Melbourne, against the New Zealand Knights FC, because of a concert of the English singer Robbie Williams which took place with the Dome.

A new record was beaten on December 8th, 2006 for the return on the lawn of Victory of the Sydney FC (50,333). The match was rather disappointing archie Thompson and Danny Allsopp missed both by beautiful occasions.

A project is in the course of planning for a new stage conceived for Victory, as well as the only club of Rugby to XIII of the city, the Melbourne Storm. The end of work is envisaged before the beginning of the season 2008-09, but for the records of spectators of the club of this last time, it seems that the capacity envisaged of 25,000 places will not be enough. A new project was thus conceived, according to which the Olympic Park would be increased and improved to accommodate with him only Storm, while a new stage of at least 35.000 places would be built for Victory.

The shirts residence and outside of Melbourne Victory comprise a V, symbolizing the state of Victoria. The colors of the club are navy blue, white and gray.
