Meiko Kaji (梶芽衣子), of its true name Masako Ota (太田雅子) is a Japanese actress born the March 24th 1947 with Tōkyō (Japan). It is also a singer.
Biography
With little success but a great experiment of cinema industry, it signs in 1970 with the Nikkatsu, where it will play of the more or less important roles in the series of films Alleycat (or Stray Cat ) Rock . These films put in scene gangs of young girls clashing for various reasons but, no matter what inventive, they suffer from scenarios without value and a low quality. In 1971 Nikkatsu launched out in the financially lucrative industry of the erotic film, which makes its reputation today, while launching its series of " Romance Porn " softwares. To avoid becoming a starlet of the Pinku eiga , Kaji joined the Toei where it meets the realizer Shunya Ito and plays in four films of prison of women, in the series of the Joshuu Sasori (literally Prisonnière Scorpion ), which made it famous in all Japan. These films were adapted of a famous Manga of Toru Shinohara. For the fourth episode, Toei replaced the realizer Shunya Ito by Yasuharu Hasebe, a decision which dissatisfied Kaji and made it leave the series, which continued until in 1998 with six after-effects of quite less quality.
In 1973 it took the role of Yuki in film with the topic of revenge Lady Snowblood , which became a film worship in Occident. It was based on a manga Kazuo Koike, the creator of Crying Freeman and Baby Cart . The film was one of the inspirations of the Kill Bill of Quentin Tarantino. It had a continuation, Lady Snowblood 2: Coil Song off Revenge .
Kaji appeared then in several films of Kinji Fukasaku, in particular Tombe of yakuza and flower of gardénia (1976).
Its career of singer is mainly related to her cinematographic career, because she often sang on the original soundtracks of the films in which she played. Thanks to that, she knew an renewed interest with the exit of the Kill Bill vol. 1 & 2 and of their original soundtrack. Topics of Lady Snowblood , " Flower off Carnage" (Shura No Hana), and the topic of the Sasori series, " Urami Bushi" (literally " Song of Ressentiment"), all two sung by Kaji, were used in films of Tarantino.
