Mehmed III (or Mehmet III) (born the May 26th 1566 with Manisa and dead the December 22nd 1603 with Constantinople) Othoman sultan was the 13th . Wire and successor of Mourad III, it reigned of 1595 with 1603.

Biography

Mehmed III will remain of sad famous in the history to have strangled his/her 16 brothers in order to go up on the throne. Its reign is marked by increasing difficulties in foreign policy, in particular by the war carried out against the Habsbourg. The major event of the reign was besides the war of Hungary (1596 - 1605), during which it overcame the Habsbourg with the Bataille of Mezokeresztes.

In search for allies, it joins again the commercial relations with the France by signing news Capitulations with Istanbul (1597), after having received the ambassador of Henri IV, François Savary Short. The bonds between France and the Ports of the Levant had somewhat distended because of the wars of religion in France on the one hand, and of the rise of the Piraterie in the Mediterranean on the other hand.

The reign of Mehmed III has bad reputation. He would have forsaken the businesses to deal with sound Harem while giving to it of the sumptuous festivals. Mohammed III is assassinated and his/her son, Ahmet Ier (1603-1617), takes his succession.
