Megastructure (architecture)
A megastructure is an architectural concept popularized during the Sixties, where a building could shelter several functions normally reserved for separate buildings.
The first megastructures were undoubtedly these royal palaces where the sovereign consolidated in a unit compact, generally easy to defend against the hostile attacks, the various functions necessary to his dwelling and his government.
Certain monasteries set up on exiguous places, such as the Mont Saint-Michel could be also regarded as megastructures.
A maritime platform of oil drilling is a modern good example of megastructure.
