Megaman Battle Network

is a Video game of Action-RPG developed by Capcom, left in 2001 on Game Boy Advance. It is the first play of the series Megaman.EXE . It was available to the launching of the console in Japan.

Scenario and universe

Summary

In the year 200X, in a futuristic world near to our, the data-processing networks were spread on all planet. All the domestic equipment is henceforth connected between them on Internet and each and everyone has a terminal of personal assistance (“ FART ”) in which is a special program called “ Navi ” (or “Navigator” or “ NetNavi ”). The Navi is a modifiable program and personalisable at will by its “operator”, making that thousands of computer programs of different appearance and behavior meet and cohabit each day in the virtual world of the Net . Lan Hikari, a young schoolboy who has since always like companion the Navi Megaman.EXE, a Navi which with the same appearance and the same characteristics as the character of video plays Megaman, runs days peaceful by learning hunting for the viruses at the school.

But there exists so much on the Net than in the real life, of the people who want to cause chaos and the destruction in the company of information… Lan and Megaman.EXE will be confronted with the mysterious cyber-organization which is done called “ WWW ” (or “ World 3 ”). One day, one of the members of the WWW pirate the system of the furnace in the house of Lan and it is as from this moment that will begin the confrontation between the young boy and the criminal organization.

After many combat against the members of the WWW , Lan manages to flush out the chief of the organization, Doctor Wily, who wants to be avenged for the grandfather of Lan of which he was a former colleague. The combat is closed by the apparent death of Doctor Wily.

; Lan Hikari/Hikari Netto (光熱斗) and Megaman/Rockman: They are the main characters of the play. Lan is a pupil of CM2, his/her father is a large scientist and researcher in Navi . Megaman was created by amalgamating the heart of Hub Hikari (the twin brother of Lan, died of the incurable infantile disease) with a program NetNavi conceived by his/her father who uses human DNA to produce a program able to develop a true friendship with his operator. ; Mayl Sakurai/Sakurai Meiru (桜井メイル) and Roll: Mayl is the neighbor and near friend to Lan. Roll is its NetNavi, it based on the character of Roll in the other plays of the series Megaman , although it is not related to Megaman in this version. It can as well attack its enemies with its antennas as to use them to look after a allied Navi . Roll also exists in the form of a Battle Chip (chart or chip of combat), which makes it possible to the player to call it for an attack. ; Yai Ayano/Ayanokōji Yaito (綾小路やいと) and Glyde: Yai is the brilliant girl of a rich person chairman. She is smaller and more young person that the majority of the other characters. She is as more intelligent as the latter. Its NetNavi , Glyde, is not conceived for the combat and must count on the Battle Chips of Yai very few but powerful. This Navi is based on Glyde of the play The Misadventures off Tron Bonne . ; Dex Ogreon/Ōyama Dekao (大山デカオ) and Gutsman: Dex is the hooligan of the school, but it is not a bad person. He and Lan become good friends because they share same passion for the Net Battles (engagements on Internet). Its NetNavi , Gutsman, is imposing and powerful. It is copied on Gutsman of the plays of the series Megaman . ; Hot Eugene/Ijūin Enzan (伊集院炎山) and Protoman/Blues: Heat is a NetBattler (combatant on Internet) official delegated by the government to inquire into the crimes into Internet. Heat is the principal rival of Lan since they continue both the same goal. That creates nevertheless a kind of mutual respect between the two boys. Protoman is based on the character that the Megaman series, however its design can make think of Zero series X and Zero . Protoman and Chaud adopt attitude solitary, they do not want assistance, and are convinced of the superiority of their technique of combat. ; Doctor Albert W. Wily: It is the brain behind WWW . Formerly, he was a scientist of the government which worked with Doctor Hikari (the grandfather of Lan) until one cuts to him the funds for his research in robotics. He created WWW to obtain his revenge on the government and his scientists. ; Low/Strong: He is also called Super Navi . Low was created at the time of a secret project. The scientists wanted to destroy it because he believed that he caused system errors. But Bass survived and he sought to be avenged for human, and all the Navi being combined with them. ; Doctor Yuichiro Hikari/Hikari Yūichiro (光祐一郎): He is the father of Lan. Doctor Yuichiro Hikari invented, inter alia things the advanced versions of FART .

Gameplay

This play east is very different from its predecessors of the series of the sets of platforms Megaman . Indeed, this play is, following the example others Megaman Battle Network , mainly is a Action-RPG using aspect of the Card decks to collect. The attacks are done via electronic chips ( battle Chips ) that the player must find, to buy, exchange or exchange and with which it must form a deck called “file” (or “ folder ” in version original) which will be used at the time of the phases of combat. The player, to progress, must obtain chips known as of “setting-with-day” to improve the capacities and the characteristics of the Navi Megaman.EXE.

The play is divided into two quite distinct phases:

  • the real-world in which the player controls Lan Hikari. This phase is connected with a play of adventure in which Lan must interact with other people and solve enigmas. It must find the chips of combat making it possible also there to improve its Navi .
  • the virtual world of Internet in which the player controls the Navi Megaman.EXE. It is always possible to interact with others Navis but this phase contains more directed elements action since the phases of combat proceed there.

The combat are random and partially with the turn by turn. A turn is defined by a gauge located in top the screen indicating how long it remains before the next phase making it possible to carry out an attack. The attacks are represented by the chips. Ells can be selected according to their code and of their name. The player can use more than only one chip if they have the same name and/or the same code. It is also possible for him to form combo S by combining several chips of the same name but with some differences with the levels of the letters and their order.

Certain chips have an effect associated with an element. There exists also a cyclic relation between the elements: fire burns wood, wood stops electricity, electricity leads water, water extinguishes fire, etc… This effects can be reflected at the same time on Megaman.EXE (according to the armor that this last carries) but also on certain monsters more sensitive to particular elements. Moreover certain boxes of the zone of combat can have an elementary attribute: the boxes of fire burn, the grass boxes look after etc…

Megaman.EXE has three characteristics: the attack, defense and power.

  • the attack defines the power of a blow of gun of Megaman.EXE
  • defense indicates the degree of damage which Megaman can resist.
  • the power makes it possible to vary the power of the gun.

The chips of setting-with-day make it possible to increase one of these caratéristiques.
