Mega Bloks , founded in 1967, is a Québécois company whose head office is located at Montreal, Quebec. It is also about the name of its most popular product.

It manufactures especially plays based on building plastic blocs to assemble. Some of these bricks are similar with those manufactured by Lego and its market being primarily North-American, it is thus a direct compétitrice on this territory.

Description

According to its corporative Web site (in date of 2006), it employs approximately 3.000 people divided in eight country, of which a thousand in Canada.

It distributes everywhere on planet plastic bricks which it manufactures, but its market is especially North-American. The majority of those are produced with the Canada, the others are it in China. From the nature of its products, it aims especially male customers in low age.

The company produced, in 2005, of bricks in four sizes:

1. maximum Size, introduced in 1985, is larger than the brick Duplo, but smaller than the brick Primo.
2. mini Size, introduced in 1989, is similar to the Duplo brick, but has protuberances a little higher.
3. micro Size, introduced in 1991, is same size as the Lego brick.
4. nano Size, introduced in 2004, is the smallest brick produced by the company.

It also produced a cartoon film where characters are built with its bricks.

In 2005, she affirms to hold 40  % of the Canadian market of the building sets.

History

In 1967, Victor Bertrand and his Rita wife founded the company under the name of Ritvik Toys, Inc. (a composition of Rita and Victor). March 19th, 2002, its name became Mega Bloks Inc., of the name of sound more popular toy.

Towards the end of the Years 1990, it signed contracts of distribution with important store chains of toys. These agreements enabled him to grow significantly, with the detriment of the Lego company. During the Years 2000, it underwent various continuations on behalf of the Lego company, but the latter all lost them.

June 16th, 2005, it acquires an American company specialized in the plastic toys for girls, Pink Art, for the sum of 350  million US dollars.

In 2005, wire of the founders, Vic Bertrand Jr. and Marc Bertrand, carry out the company.
