Meensel-Kiezegem
Meensel-Kiezegem is an old commune which, after fusion, fact part of the common of Tielt-Winge in the Belgian province of the the Flemish Brabant. Meensel-Kiezegem has a surface of 6,52 km {{2}} and counted 1074 inhabitants in 1977, before fusion with Tielt-Winge.
Meensel and Kiezegem were two distinct villages before their fusion in 1824.
Drama
A third of the inhabitants of the village did not survive the Second world war. The majority were assassinated towards the end of the war.
The July 30th 1944, the Collaborateur Gaston Merckx was cut down. As reprisals, the German occupant imprisoned the August 11th all the male inhabitants and sent much in death camp of it. 76 died there.
