Medusa (volcano)

The Medusa is a Stratovolcan little known regarded as extinct currently, located at the border between the Chile (third Région of Atacama) and the Argentine (province of Catamarca - Département of Tinogasta). It culminates with 6 129 meters.
Situation
Medusa is drawn up in an almost lunar landscape, between four large volcanic solid masses: El Muerto in north with less than ten kilometers, the Nevados Ojos del Salado in the North-West with some six kilometers, solid mass of the Nacimientos (Walter Penck I) with some 12 kilometers in south-west and the group of the two volcanos Gendarme Argentino I and Gendarme Argentino II with eight kilometers in the south-south-east. In the North-East finally, initially the Nevado and the Negro are, then El Fraile more distant. It is thus very close to the large volcanic solid mass of the Nevados Ojos del Salado, more precisely with less than six kilometers in the south-east of this last. It does not belong however to this solid mass and constitutes a completely distinct apparatus.
Description
Its cone which rises with the height of 6 129 meters is overcome by an almost perfect crater 370 meters in diameter.Enclosed by neighbors giant than him, it is in a very difficult zone of access and is little known of this fact. The trunk road 60 which crosses the Paso of San Francisco is rather distant from him. Being given the very hard conditions of the medium and the weak tourist equipment of the zone, very few are those which wish to explore it.
Although he is forgotten a little, it should be stressed that its 6 129 meters - largely higher than the 5 895 meters of famous the Kilimandjaro for example - locate among the highest volcanos of the world.
