Medisamak
Medisamak is an association of the professionals of the sector of the fishing of the bordering countries of the the Mediterranean. Its name comes from the contraction of “the Mediterranean” and “ samak ” which means Arab Poisson in .
Objectives
To represent and defend the specific interests, generals and, of the professionals of fishing in the Mediterranean whatever their nationality; to work out proposals for actions, reforms or measurements aiming at the improvement of the activity of the professionals of fishing in the Mediterranean and the safeguarding of all the resources of the sea on which they depend.
Creation
Joined together on initiative of Europêche (the association of the national organizations of companies of fishing of the European Union) and with in particular financial support of the European commission, the professionals of the fishing of 11 countries on the Mediterranean (Albania, Algeria, Egypt, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Libya, Malta, Morocco and Tunisia) founded with Tunis Medisamak association, in the prolongation of the Ministerial conference of Venice of November 2003 which had amongst other things encouraged the constitution of an entity of professionals.
The seat of association is located at Tarragone (Spain)
Since May 7th 2006, three new countries are members of association: Cyprus, the Slovenia and the Croatia.
Operation
The Executive committee of association elected on May 7th, 2004 Mourad Kahoul (France) in the position of president and Toufik Rahmani (Algeria), Arwad Marzouk (Egypt), Antonio Marzoa Dopico (Spain) and Ervio Dobosz (Italy) at the posts of vice-presidents.
