The medical information is a relatively recent activity going back to about fifteen years. The Médecin S which exert it are called doctors DIM (Département of Medical information).

Since the appearance of PMSI (Program of Médicalisation of the Information system) doctors DIM are charged to collect, control, and transmit all the information medicalized structured and coded since the establishments of hospitalization towards the payments departments and controllers. This program allowed the recent installation of the Tarification the activity for the public corporations and deprived.

One should not confuse this activity of Medical information with that of Medical computing and Information Technologies.
