The medical biology (France), clinical Biology (Belgium), Medicine of Laboratory , Clinical Pathology (anglophone Canada, Switzerland, Pays) or Biopathologie (Greece) is a discipline which consists of execution of analyzes on liquid biological (in opposition to Anatomopathologie which studies pathological fabrics) and in the medical interpretation of the results with an aim of characterizing the physiopathological origin of a disease .

The fields of investigation are the following:

Professions entitled to exert medical biology

  • With the Canada, this profession is the exclusive prerogative of the doctors of laboratory or Pathologiste S: immunopathologists, hematopathologists or Doctors biochemists for example. The period of residence for this specialization is one 5 years duration.
  • In France, the medical biology is a medical and pharmaceutical speciality primarily. There exist also Vétérinaire S biologists. These doctors, pharmacists and veterinary surgeons must justify 4 years of postgraduate formation in hospital laboratories (Internat) before obtaining the rank of medical biologist (ou' biopathologiste' not to be confused with the Québécois medical Biologist).
  • In Belgium, the clinical biology is a speciality which can be exerted by:
    • of the specialized doctors (doctor-biologists)
    • of the specialized pharmacists (pharmacist-biologists).
    • a whole small group of bachelors in sciences having obtained approval to follow the occupation.
  • With the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, one also finds pharmacist-biologists and doctor-biologists and bachelors in medical biology.
