The mediator of the Republic is an institution bénénoise which corresponds to the Ombudsman. It goes back to 2004.

History of the mediator of the Republic of the Benign

Creation under the mode of the General Mathieu Kérékou. In the explanatory memorandum, the government of the president Yayi Boni took as a starting point the provisions of article 98, 13th indent of the constitution of December 11th, 1990 to register the mediator in his action plan over the period 2002 - 2006 like a facilitator in the management of the crises socio - political. Article 1 of the decree No 2004 - 299 of May 20th, 2004 - defines the mediator of the Republic like a body gracious intercessor between the administration and the users of the public office. Independent authority, the mediator of the Republic constitutes according to the initiators an original solution for the resolution of the conflicts which oppose to the citizens to the public service, the socio-professional forces with the government for little that the resolution of these conflicts, no jurisdiction appears qualified .

The first mediator, Albert Tévoédjrè, was named the July 28th 2006.
