Media library Were worth

The Médiathèque Were worth develops its activity according to five axes. It has the roles:

  1. to join together, emphasize and to preserve the inheritance printed and audio-visual of the Canton of Were worth
  2. to offer, in the various fields of knowledge, the services of a Bibliothèque/Médiathèque of study and reference by its clean Collection S and its participation in the Réseau X of exchanges of information
  3. to ensure the service of a documentation specialized for the teachers
  4. to contribute to the cultural life and scientist of the Canton of Were worth
  5. to coordinate and support technically and financially the network of the Valaisan libraries .

History

Opened to the public in 1853 under the name of cantonal Bibliothèque of the Were worth , it adopts its current name in 2000. A long time presents only in the chief town of the canton of the Valais, with Sion, it gradually developed appendices regional in the German-speaking part of the Valais, with Brigue in 1971, then with Saint-Maurice in 1974. Since 1987, it has a center devoted to the audio-visual heritage to Martigny.

Funds

The Médiathèque proposes with its public encyclopedic collections in the various fields of knowledge and the literature. As a patrimonial Library, it systematically collects books, booklets, reviews, newspapers, reports/ratios, posters and others printed of lower importance in relation to the canton of the Valais. Cineclub, photographic library and record library of the Were worth, they also preserves all the audio-visual documents of patrimonial interest which they are simply published commercially or diffused. She also proposes didactic and teaching collections specialized for the teachers.

The Media library Were worth has approximately a million documents, a half are audio-visual printed papers form and the other half.

Catalog

The Médiathèque Were worth takes part in the Réseau of the libraries of Western Switzerland (RERO) and its catalogs is integrated into this collective Database. It made the choice announce to it the whole of its funds, printed and audio-visual, like stripping there (since 2003) the press and the periodic publications in relation to the Valais. It also develops a virtual library on the common site of the libraries Romand are, and collaborates finally in the common catalog of the posters in which the whole of its collection from now on is announced.
