Following the request for several associations of escaped prisoners, it is the deputy Leon Delsart who deposited a private bill in 1925. Step which leads to the vote of the law of the August 20th 1926, instituting the “ medal of the escaped prisoners ”. A decree of the October 2nd 1926 specifies the provisions and model of the badge and the ribbon.

Recipients

  • For the First World War:

    • Military S prisoners of war during the combat either in Europe, or on the theaters of operations external (T.O.E.), authors of acts of escape.
    • Alsatian and Lorraine, which between the August 2nd 1914 and on November 1st 1918, is escaped rows of the German army .
    • civilians, interned in Germany and inhabitants of the occupied areas, having crossed the enemy lines to place itself at the disposal of the French military authority.
  • For the Second world war (all these actions must be between the September 2nd 1939 and the August 15th 1945):

    • people able to prove an escape successful starting from a prison camp from war or a camp from internment for actions in the Resistance, starting from an enemy or occupied territory, the escape comprising clandestine crossing from a face of war or a customs line.
    • people able to justify of two escape bids followed by disciplinary sorrows or only one matched attempt at a transfer in camp of reprisals or camp of deportation.
    • Alsatian and Lorraine, built-in of force in the German army , escaped of its rows to fight in the allied Resistance or armies.
    • Alsatian and Lorraine escaped their provinces to fight the enemy.

Decorations

  • Ribbon : Green of a width of 36 mm, cut in the direction length of three bands orange. That of the medium of a width of 7 mm, those of the edges of 2 Misters

  • Medal : Work of the engraver Dubois, the badge is round, in Bronze, and carries to the avers the effigy of the French Republic and to the reverse a crown of sheets of Chêne with in the center the inscription “Medal of the escaped prisoners”.

  • Characteristic : The medal of the escaped prisoners is regarded as a Titer of war. The law of the August 26th 1926 instituting the medal of the escaped prisoners, also concerns the escaped prisoners of the Franco-German Guerre of 1870.
