Following the request for several associations of escaped prisoners, it is the deputy Leon Delsart who deposited a private bill in 1925. Step which leads to the vote of the law of the August 20th 1926, instituting the “ medal of the escaped prisoners ”. A decree of the October 2nd 1926 specifies the provisions and model of the badge and the ribbon.
For the First World War:
For the Second world war (all these actions must be between the September 2nd 1939 and the August 15th 1945):
Ribbon : Green of a width of 36 mm, cut in the direction length of three bands orange. That of the medium of a width of 7 mm, those of the edges of 2 Misters
Medal : Work of the engraver Dubois, the badge is round, in Bronze, and carries to the avers the effigy of the French Republic and to the reverse a crown of sheets of Chêne with in the center the inscription “Medal of the escaped prisoners”.
Quotations : The Military Cross 1914-1918 or T.O.E, accompanies the medal by the escaped prisoners for the First World War and by the operations which followed in the T.O.E. On the other hand, for the Second world war, the quotation was granted only very exceptionally.
Characteristic : The medal of the escaped prisoners is regarded as a Titer of war. The law of the August 26th 1926 instituting the medal of the escaped prisoners, also concerns the escaped prisoners of the Franco-German Guerre of 1870.
Only one regiment received the medal of the escaped prisoners: the 2° Regiment of Dragons
