Medal of honor of work

The Médaille of honor of work is a French Décoration , which is intended to reward the seniority for the services carried out by any paid person or comparable drawing from this occupation the essence of its resources.

This distinction is decreed twice a year at the time of January and of July 14th.

The attribution of the Medal of honor of work is governed by the decree N° 84.591 of July 4th 1984 (Official journal of the 7/12/84), modified by the Decree N°2000-1015 of October 17th 2000.

Recipients

The recipients of this decoration are the French or foreign employees working:
  • in Metropolitan France;
  • in the departments and Overseas territories;
  • abroad, provided that the accomplished services were carried out:
    • in a French employer
    • in a branch or arranges of a company or an establishment whose head office is on the territory of the French Republic
    • in the companies or establishments made up according to a foreign right, provided that their leaders are French.
Cannot claim there:
  • the employees who, because of their profession or that of their employer, can claim with an honorary distinction decreed for seniority by another ministry (Médaille of agricultural honor - Médaille of honor departmental and communal it was replaced by the Médaille of honor regional, départemantale communal Créée on July 22nd, 1987, Médaille of honor of the Railroads, etc);
  • the civils servant of the State who are subjected to the statute of the Public office;
  • magistrates of the legal Order;
  • the Parliament surfaces in exercise.

Methods of attribution

The Medal of honor of work comprises four levels:
  1. the money Medal decreed after 20 years of services;
  2. the Medal of vermeil decreed with the holders of the money Medal cash 30 years of services;
  3. the Gold medal decreed with the holders of the two preceding ones cash 35 years of services;
  4. the Large Gold medal decreed with the holders of the three preceding ones cash 40 years of services.

Allowance of time

  • These medals can be granted after respectively 18,25,30,35 years of services when the activity carried on by the employees presents a character of painfulness and justifies that the minimum age of opening of the rights to the retirement is lower than that into force with the general scheme.
  • the French employees having occupied an employment out of the metropolitan territory profit from an allowance equal to the third from the time spent except metropolis.
  • a reduction of the working lives required is also envisaged in favor of the large industrially disabled persons.

Military service

  • the time spent in the French Army (legal time of the National service, mobilization during the Second world war, campaigns of Indo-China, Korea, and North Africa) is added to the effective periods of work whatever the date of taking up the duties in the employers.
  • For the volunteers is retained: legal time that the candidate should have achieved as called and campaigns of war.

Conditions

  • It is allotted at the request of it paid which must lodge a file with the Préfecture.
  • It is supplied of a diploma and, in certain cases, with a gratification (according to the Collective agreement or use of the company) whose amount - with the proviso of not exceeding the basic monthly salary of the recipient - is exonerated from the wages tax and the Income tax.
  • Moreover, a metal Médaille is given, which is struck and engraved by the Monnaie of Paris to the expenses of the recipient or of its employer.
  • the employer can organize a ceremony during which the diploma and the medal are given.
