Medal of Honor of public works
The decree of July 30th, 1998 fixed the conditions for application of the decree of the modified May 1st, 1897, instituting the medals of honor in favor of the operating staffs of the ministry for the equipment.
The medals of honor silver decreed by order of the prefect, pursuant to the decree referred to above, are module of 32 millimetres. They carry on a side the effigy of the Republic, surrounded of the words: “French Republic, Ministry for the equipment”. On the other face, they carry various attributes surrounded of the words: “Work, Honor, Devotion”, with an inscription reporting the name and first name of the holder as well as the year.
The holders are authorized to carry the suspended medal to a ribbon made up of two tricolor bands laid out vertically and separated by a white band. Each of the seven bands has the same width of 6 millimetres. They receive a diploma carrying their name, first names and qualities.
The people proposed must have acquired real titles with this distinction, as well by the duration as by the excellence of their services.
There exist two modes of attribution of this medal:

normal title: 30 years of seniority
- for act of courage and devotion concerning of the agents which will have been distinguished in an exceptional way
The personnel concerned is the following:
-
agents of exploitation of public works of the State
- foremen of exploitation of public works of the State
- drivers of public works of the State
- the controllers of public works of the State
- professional workmen
- nontitular personnel exerting functions of exploitation
- workmen affiliated to the mode of the pensions of the workmen of the industrial plants of the State fixed by the decree n° 65-836 of September 24th, 1965
- nontitular personnel exerting functions of exploitation;
The departmental quotas of attribution of the medals of honor of public works are fixed, with each promotion, by order of the prefect. The candidatures for the medal of honor of public works are presented by the directors and department heads concerned with the ministry for the equipment.
