She was proposed by the General Larminat in order to commemorate the services rendered by the soldiers and the civilians, French and foreigners, who contracted an engagement in the Free French Forces before the 1er August 1943.
It was the reward " the humble ones, the small ones which obscurely served and supported the interior flame of Française" Resistance;
It is decreed with all the recognized people as French Free to have subscribed an engagement in FFL between the June 18th, 1940 and on August 1st 1943, or to have been useful in territories having rejoined the cause of FFL.
Approximately 42.000 holders are counted
Badge
The medal is out of silver plated metal, it with the form of the Cross of Lorraine, one can see the mention " there; LIBRE" FRANCE; while with the reverse, one finds the dates of the June 18th, 1940 and the May 8th, 1945. The ribbon of this decoration is " blue of France " half-compartment of red oblique stripes
