Medal commemorative of the countryside of China 1860

The Médaille commemorative of the forwarding of China is a military Décoration French of the Second Empire.

Napoleon III and the England carried out two military actions in China to open this country with the foreign trade. The first intervention, in 1857, leads to the catch of Canton and the Traité of Tien-Tsin. The second, in 1860, was completed by the bag of the Palate of Summer, with Beijing, and a new treaty imposed to the Chinese the opening of eleven ports to the trade.

It is to commemorate this last intervention that the Médaille commemorative of the forwarding of China was created, by a decree of the January 23rd 1861.

  • Á the avers, in the center, the effigy of crowned Napoleon III of bay-trees and the inscription Napoleon III Emperor . With the reverse, inscriptions of the battles of Takou, Chang-Kiawou, Palikao, Beijing.
