The mécoptères ( Mecoptera ) are one of Insecte S, of the Ptérygote S, section of the Néoptère S, division of the Holométabole S, the Mécoptéroïdé S.

Characteristics

The mécoptères are characterized by
  • head in form of rostre and in the male an often bent abdomen, similar to that of a scorpion,
  • two pairs of wings.
The word comes from the old Greek mêkos , “length”.

They are carnivorous insects or necrophagous, among which one finds:

  • the Panorpe ('' Panorpa '' sp.) or fly-scorpion.
