Mecachrome
Mecachrome is a company founded by Eugene Casella, whose principal production site is at Aubigny-on-Nère, and subcontractor of Renault in particular charged to produce the engines of Formule 1 of the French manufacturer. When Renault withdraws officially discipline queen at the conclusion of the season 1997, the Mecachrome company continues its activity. Mécachrome manufactures, develops and ensures the maintenance of the ex-Renault engines until 2000. But as from the season 1999, it is the company Supertec, founded by Flavio Briatore which distributes them near the stables customer. Mecachrone will badgera under its proper name only the engines of the season 1998, provided of exclusiveness to the English stable Williams (which used the Renault blocks since 1989 and will use the Supertec engine in 1999).
Mecachrome took the departure of 16 GP and made it possible Williams to register a total of 38 points. Its best result is one 3rd place, taken down with three recoveries thanks to Jacques Villeneuve and Heinz-Harald Frentzen on Williams FW20 and the best qualification is one 2nd place on the grid, obtained by Villeneuve with the GP of Italy.
