Me hamed Issiakhem

Me hamed Issiakhem (1928 - 1985) is one of the founders of the modern Peinture in Algérie.

Biography

Me hamed Issiakhem is born the June 17th 1928 in Taboudoucht (Douar Has Djennad, Azeffoun) in Kabylie. From 1931 it passes its childhood to Relizane. In 1943 it handles a grenade, stolen in a military camp, which explodes. Two of his/her sisters and a nephew die. Hospitalized during two years, he is amputee of the left arm. Of 1947 with 1951 it is with Algiers raises Company of the Art schools then of the School of the Art schools and follows the courses of the miniaturist Omar Racim. In 1951 it meets Kateb Yacine. Of 1953 with 1958 it attends the School of the Art schools of Paris where it finds Kateb Yacine - the two artists will remain inseparable. In 1958 Issiakhem leaves France to remain in FRG then to reside in GDR.

In 1962, stock-broker of the Put of Velázquez of Madrid, Issiakhem returns to Algeria. He is then draftsman with the daily newspaper Algiers Républicain . In 1963 he is founding member of the National union of the Visual arts, of 1964 with 1966 foreman of painting at the School of the Art schools of teaching Algiers then directing of the School of the Art schools of Oran. It illustrates then several works of Kateb Yacine. Of 1965 with 1982 it creates the models of Algerian postage stamp and banknotes many. In 1967 it carries out with Kateb Yacine a film for television, Poussières of July, in 1968 the decorations of the film the way , of Slim Riad. In 1971 Issiakhem is professor of graphic art at the Polytechnic school of Architecture and Town planning of Algiers and creates the decorations for the film November. He travels in 1972 to the Vietnam and receives in 1973 a gold medal with the International exhibition of Algiers for the decoration of the stand of the social Affair and Ministry of Labor.

Of 1973 with 1978 Issiakhem is draftsman of press. It directs in 1977 the realization of a fresco for the Aéroport_d' Algiers. The social Affair and Ministry of Labor publishes in Algiers a plate whose Kateb Yacine writes the foreword under the title Issiakhem, Eye-of-lynx and American, thirty-five years of the hell of a painter . In 1978 Issiakhem remains a few months with Moscow and receives in 1980 First Simba d' Or (Gold Lion) of Rome, distinction of UNESCO for African art. He dies on February 1st 1985 following a long illness.
