Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes is a group of American Punk.
Gimmes are to some extent a group “Alstar” whose members play already in other known groups. They are a cover band , i.e. their discography is made up only of Reprise again S of titles of international variety to the sauce Punk rock'n'roll. N
They are not deprived besides at the time of changing one or two words of the original words, for example in " San Francisco " ( Blow in the Wind ), the last verse:
“ Yew you like to San Francisco / Summertime will Be has coil-in there ”
is replaced by:
“ Yew you' Re going to Stinky' S peepshow / Summertime is Nice with wild wild to hate ”
Or, " Stand By Your Man" finishes on these words apocryphal books:
“ Sometimes its hardware to Be has Gimme / Giving all your life to just one band / But yew you coils them / Please don' T make fun off them / 'Cause after all we' Re just has band ”
In addition, Gimmes also have fun to integrate fronts of guitar or melodies borrowed from other groups, as at the time of their resumption of the traditional Jewish song " Cut Nagila " where they placed on several occasions the principal front of " Like Out And Play" of The Offspring. One finds also here or there pieces of Stiff Little Fingers (in " Longest Line"), Bad Religion (in " San Francisco "), The Clash (in " Elenor"), etc
Among the recoveries, one finds inter alia " Rocket Man" of Elton John, " All My Loving" and " Strawberry Fields Forever" Beatles, " Crazy" of Seal or " I Believe I Edge Fly" of R. Kelly. Some their albums have a single musical topic: Are has Drag takes again famous songs of musical comedies, Blow in the Wind is devoted to the rock'n'roll of the Sixties, and Take has Station-wagon contains only resumptions of tubes R' B. In addition, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes have with their credit a whole series of vinyls (7") containing each one two songs (one by face) of a particular singer, among whom one finds Billy Joel ( Billy , 1996), Barry Manilow ( Barry , 1997), Simon & Garfunkel ( Garf , 1999) or Bob Dylan ( Bob , 2001). The titles of the albums can often be heard with double English direction.
The members of the group took for practice to adopt with each new album a behavior Kitsch and whimsical different. At the time of their concerts, they generally carry all the same shirt hawaïenne of bright color and use guitars with the very special form, each member having his appointed color: red for Conceited Mike, green for Chris and blue for Joey.
The last album of the group is live, recorded during a bar-mitsva. It is undoubtedly the most eclectic album of Gimmes, where the resumptions of Led Zeppelin, of Blondie côtoient that of the The Carpenters or traditional songs like " O Plate Me " , " Auld Lang Syne " and " Cut Nagila ".
A new album " Coil Their Country" is planned for 2006: Gimmes announced to enter in studio for its recording the April 3rd. This time, it seems that they will attack the traditional ones of Country music.
