Mdina

Mdina (to pronounce “imdina”) is the old capital of Malta. It is a strengthened city of the center of the island, sits of the locality of the same name. Moreover Mdina means strengthened city in Maltais. It is called " The Silent City" , because she is inhabited only by 300 inhabitants, because applies a special tax intended for the inhabitants of " médiévales" cities; , and them cars are not authorized there.

History

Founded by Phéniciens in order to make a center of trade of it, Mdina was invaded by the Arabs who divided the city, that they found too large, downtown two distinct: Mdina and Rabat, which means suburbs. The Norman ones, on the way of the crusades, released Mdina, then it was attached to the crown of Spain. The Othomans attacked the city, but ran up against Spanish resistance, and withdrew themselves. Later, Napoleon takes the control of the city, but its garrison is massacred by a popular rising. The Malteses call English with the assistance, who takes the control of the island and drives out French.
