McGarrigle sisters

The sisters McGarrigle (Kate and Anna) form a duet of music folk Quebec.

Profile

The McGarrigle sisters write their texts and occur on scene together. They were born with Saint-Saver-of-Mounts (Laurentides) in the years 1940. Their métissée relationship Québécois E and Irish influence their repertory which is at the same time in French and English.

The albums Between Lajeunesse and wisdom (known also of the english-speaking like French Record ) and the Cow which cries , are in French. Other albums include several French titles. Philippe Tatartcheff was often the joint author.

Many titles were taken again by interpreters such as: Maria Muldaur, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Billy Bragg, Chloé Sainte-Marie, Anne-Sofie von Otter or The Corrs. Another sister, Jane McGarrigle, also wrote and sang with the duet without to have constituted a trio.

The two sisters were decorated with the Ordre of Canada in 1993 and received the Prix of the General governor in 2004.
