Mbanza-Ngungu

Mbanza-Ngungu , known in the past under the name of Thysville , according to Albert Thys (and Sounded Qongo before 1904), is a locality of the Low-Congo in Democratic republic of Congo, located along the line of Railroad Matadi-Kinshasa of which it is the principal stage. The city is located at 154 kilometers of Kinshasa, 234 km of Matadi and 34 km of Kisantu. It counts approximately: 100000 inhabitants and is thus the third city of Low-Congo.

The city is siuée in an area of hills and small valleys; a View-point culminates there to 785 measure altitude. In the past tourist locality, of the caves known for a blind fish without pigment are in the vicinity. One of the many caves shelters also a cemetery where is buried a noble chief, name of Mdombolozi Finzolwa. According to the sign of its tomb it must be born in 1684. In addition to the fact that the city shelters an important military base, it has also a railway industry.

History

The mutiny of the black soldiers against their white officers some days after independence played a great part in the history of the country.
