Mazurek Dąbrowskiego ( the Mazurka of Dąbrowski ) is the National anthem of the Poland. It was composed by Józef Wybicki in 1797 and initially entitled Chant of the Polish Legions in Italy (Pieśń Legionów Polskich we Włoszech). It was selected like anthem by the kingdom of Poland (Royaume of the Congress) in 1831 and officially adopted by the Republic in 1927.
The Polish legions were create by Napoleon Bonaparte in Italy. The legionaries believed that they were going then to fight for the release of Poland, which was then occupied. Dąbrowski was one their chiefs.
