Mayon

The Mayon is a active Volcan Filipino , on the island of Luçon, in the province of Albay.

Description

Mayon is a Stratovolcan. Its almost perfect cone, which makes it compare with the Mont Fuji, is composed of Lave S pyroclastic. It is the most active volcano of the country, with approximately 50 eruption S in the last four centuries.

It is located at the limit of the plates Eurasian and Filipino, a zone of Subduction.

Eruptions

The first eruption recorded took place in 1616, and since there was more than one about thirty the major successor in title of human losses and economic eruptions.

Most destroying took place the 1814. The lava submerged the town of Cagsawa and 1 200 people found death there. Only remained the Clocher of the church of the village. The eruption of February 1993 was also fatal: 77 people were killed by the run ashes.

Other eruptions took place in 1897, 1928, 1947. The March 16th 2000 took place the eruption n°47, which caused a column of ashes of 1 kilometer height. In 2001, more 25 000 people were evacuated, after 73 000 in 1984. In 2003, there were two eruptions, the March 17th and the October 13rd.

The August 7th 2006, the massive displacement of more than 30 000 people was decided, vis-a-vis the risk of eruption of Mayon. The August 9th, close to 40 000 people had been evacuated of a zone going up to 8 km in the south-east of the volcano.
