Mayet

Mayet is a common French, located in the department of the the Sarthe and the area Pays of the Loire.

Its inhabitants is called Mayetais.

Geography

47°45' Northern latitude, 0°16' longitude East in the South and the East of the brook with trout the Ell , in the North of the Dormouse , the West of the Forest of Rocked and the Highway A28 (Axis Calais-Bayonne).

Localities and variations

The old man Mayet (feudal mound), Knighthood of Baigneux, the Fountain Bribe, the laundrette of Ruail, the laundrette of the Arch, the place of the town hall and its constructions end 19th, the Fort of the Rooms, and in the vicinity the Manor of Sarceau, (house of Ronsard). The forest of Rocked (more than 5000 ha).

History

  • Mathilde, lady of Castle-of-Dormouse, girl of Gervais, lord of Castle-of-Dormouse and woman of Hélie Ier of the Arrow or of Baugency, are the heiress of the grounds of Mayet. His/her daughter Erembourg of Beaugency or Erembourg of the Arrow, married in 1109 Foulque V Beautiful the, count of Anjou and Tours, and brought to him the Comté of Maine, which was definitively attached to the Anjou.
  • Since Xesiècle, the Grounds of the Rooms of Mayet belong to the family of kings Plantagenêt. Henri II Plantagenêt which becomes count of Anjou with died of his/her father in 1151 makes build the fort of the Rooms, in order to protect its stronghold from Castle-of-Dormouse and its grounds of the Maine angevin.

  • With the Middle Ages, the borough of Mayet was divided into two: Saint Martin's day and Saint Nicolas's Day.

  • a curiosity, the first swimming pool of outdoor of the department always creates starting from the tank of an old gas works in activity the summer and heated (26° on average).

  • Strange: the lane of the Ogre enters main street and the laundrette of the arch

Religious heritage

The old man Mayet and his vault Holy Cross (private) at the end of the district Saint Nicolas; the place of the town hall entirely rebuilt with 18th: at the origin, the church was located at the site of the current town hall in direction of Pontvallain.

Economy

Formerly primarily agricultural area, near to the forest to Rocked famous for its oaks, the arrival of the train the Mans-Turn at the 19th century, directs the city towards small industry, Cavé sawmill, manufactures of Franchet cord, today Sofac manufactures the boardings and the calendars. High site of television in the middle of the 20th century, at the end of the 20th century the protection of the " spade-prune" fact of moving back the arrival of the highway of ten year, finally the 21e century opens with the repairing of the small inheritance (laundrettes, attic window, old residences…) and the opening of the highway in domanial skirt of forest, the regrouping allows a more powerful use of agricultural surfaces, a better use of water. The pylon of TDF of Mayet is the highest construction of France since its restoration and the increase in its size. It culminates with 342 meters.
