Mayer Amschel Rothschild
Mayer Amschel Rothschild (February 23rd 1744 – September 19th 1812) is the founder of the banking dynasty of Rothschild, become one of the most famous families in the business world. In 2005, Mayer Amschel Rothschild was classified 7th in the " List the most influential business men of the histoire" by the American magazine Forbes , naming it " father of finance internationale" .
He was born Mayer Amschel Bauer on February 23rd, 1744 with Francfort-sur-le-Main in the west from Germany, wire of Moses Amschel Bauer. He changed his name into Rothschild (which one can translate into French by shield or red escutcheon), in reference to the red shield, symbol of the family home then become that of the bank and the trade of loan against security created by his/her Moses father.
The fortune of Mayer Rothschild started with its business with Guillaume Ier, voter of Hesse-Cassel. Guillaume had inherited what was regarded as one of greatest fortunes of Europe and came from there to depend mainly on Mayer for management on this one, in particular during and after the occupation the area by Napoleon (Guillaume then left in exile during several years, trustful in Mayer the management of its fortune).
Family
The August 29th 1770 Mayer married Gutlé Schnapper (1753-1849). They had 10 children:- Schönche Sleeve-board Rothschild (1771-1859) - married Benedikt Moses Worms (1772 - 1824)

- Solomon Mayer (1774-1855), founder of the Austrian branch of the bank Rothschild
- Nathan Mayer (1777-1836), founder of the English branch of the bank Rothschild
- Isabella Rothschild (1781-1861)
- Babette Rothschild (1784-1869)
- Calmann (Carl) Mayer (1788-1855), founder of the Neapolitan branch of the bank Rothschild
- Julie Rothschild (1790-1815)
- Henriette (" Jette") (1791-1866) married Abraham Montefiore (1788-1824)
- James Mayer de Rothschild (1792-1868) - founder of the French branch of the bank Rothschild
Mayer Amschel Rothschild died in Frankfort on September 19th, 1812 and was buried with the Battonnstrasse cemetery of this city.
