Mayenne angevine occupies one the southern third of the department of the Mayenne. This territory constitutes part of the High-Anjou.

Mayenne angevine consists of two traditional countries: Country of Castle-Gontier and Country of Craon called the Craonnais.

History

During the creation of the French departments in 1790, the department of the Mayenne consisted of part of the Comté of Maine (around Laval and of the north of the department) and of part of the Anjou, for the southern part of the département.
This territory angevin located in Mayenne corresponds essentially to the old seneschalsy of Castle-Gontier and to the country of Craon depend on the Sénéchaussée of Angers.

Geography

Mayenne angevine includes/understands seven cantons and more than one about sixty communes as well as a sub-prefecture: Castle-Gontier.
