The Maydeae are a tribe of the family of the Poaceae , subfamily of the Panicoideae , which gathers various species of annual or long-lived herbaceous plants of Old and the New world divided into six kinds, two originating in America: Zea and Tripsacum and four originating in Asia: Coix , Chionachne , Polytoca and Trilobachne . With this tribe is attached the Maïs (kind Zea ), one of the three large Céréale S of world importance.

Tribe undoubtedly obsolete

This tribe any more is not very much used, in particular because its character monophyletic is disputed. The kinds are then placed in the tribe of the Andropogoneae .
