Maybach

Car manufacturer, founded by Wilhelm Maybach, specialized in the luxury cars, such as Maybach-Zeppelin DS7 and DS8 produced between 1928 and 1934.

Wilhelm Maybach (August 9th 1846 - December 20th 1929) will work a long time with Gottlieb Daimler and will take part in the development of all the first Daimler engines until 70 ch de 1906. After a disagreement with Daimler, it joins in 1907 Ferdinand von Zeppelin to develop engines of airships. All the airships Zeppelin (until Graf von Zeppelin) will be equipped of exclusiveness in Maybach engines.

Available in 1915, series CX to 6 cylinders of 22 liters cubic capacity develops 210  CH (with 1300  tr/min). Nearly 2000 engines will be built during the First World War. They were famous for their endurance which reached 40  hours, a record for the time! More improved, MBIVa, provides 260  CH and has an adjustable carburettor following altitude, enabling him to maintain its power until 1  800  Mr.

The treaty of Versailles prohibited with the Weimar Republic, Germany according to war, the manufacture of airships. Maybach turns to the car, under the denomination of Maybach Motorenbau and presents its first W1 model since 1921. The W3 with six-cylinder motor quickly follows (1922), all manufactured with Friedrichshafen close to the Lac of Constancy

Quickly, the mark goes up in range with W5 then, in 1928, the first models of very great luxury Zeppelin, with V12 engine are launched.

His/her Karl son who had assisted it for several years takes again the torch with his death in 1929. He launches models 6 cylinders of series SW in 1936. The production continues until in 1941 to reach 1  800 specimens on the whole (including nearly 200 " Zeppelin").

During the Second world war Maybach was the leading vendor of engine for the tanks. It equipped the Panzer III, Panzer IV, Tigre I, Tigre II '' Königstiger '', Leopards, Panther, Elefant…. in particular of enormous V12 engines providing until 700  CH.

The mark will not be concerned the Second world war and will fall into the marks forgotten from the group Mercedes-Benz until in 2002. Recreated under the name Maybach Manufaktur it is today the mark of very top-of-the-range group.

Since its repurchase, Maybach developed models 57 and 62 (respectively 5,7m and 6,2m length), of the trucks of great luxury available also in version sport with the 57S and 62S since 2006.

Maybach also designed a car of named exception Exelero, a " sportive" of 5,89m and 2.7T with 700 horses and a couple of 1020Nm. It passes from 0 to 100km/h in only 4.4sc. During tests on the ring of Nardo in Italy, it reached 351,45 km/h; world records for a fitted limousine of tires of series.
