France: Second turn of the presidential Election of 2007 in France; the candidate UMP Nicolas Sarkozy (photo) is elected President of the French Republic with nearly 53,06% of the votes cast, against the Socialist Ségolène Royal who obtains 46,94%.
the participation reaches a historical score of almost 85% with a record number of registered voters.

the United Kingdom: Tony Blair announces her departure of the post of Prime Minister and the post of head of the workers party for the June 27th.

Europe: The Concours Eurovision of the song 2007 is gained by Marija Šerifović for the Serbia with the song Molitva .
France: the Coupe de France of football 2007 is gained by FC Sochaux-Montbeliard at the end of the finale against OM (2-2 a.p., 5-4).

France: Nicolas Sarkozy succeeds officially Jacques Chirac with the presidency of the Republic.
The very same day, it pays homage to French resistance (the Général de Gaulle, Georges Clémenceau, shot heroes of the Release of Paris in 1944)
It goes in evening to Berlin to meet the German chancelière Angela Merckel and to try to start again European construction and Franco-German alliance.
European Union: Malta and Cyprus obtains the green light of the Commission to adopt the Euro on January 1st 2008.
France: opening of the 60e International festival of the cinema in Cannes .

France: the list of the members of the government of Francois Fillon is revealed in the afternoon. This last forms a government of opening, equal tiny room to 15 ministries and ; the Socialist Bernard Kouchner becomes Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

the United Kingdom: the Cutty Sark , a famous historical Three-masted ship, exposed in the dry hold to Greenwich in the national maritime museum, is devastated by a fire which almost entirely destroys it; the mast and the aerofoil, which had been dismounted during work of restoration, are saved.
