  • May 15th:

    • Creation of the National front, French communist resistance movement.
    • First flight of a British jet, the Gloster E28/39.
  • May 24th:

    • the British cruiser Hood is run by the German battleship Bismark : 1.416 sailors perish;
    • the Greek government leaves the Crete for Cairo.
  • May 26th:

    • Exchange of gunfire between the German battleship Bismarck and the Polish destroyer Piorun which announces the position of the Bismarck to the British fleet.
  • May 27th:

    • After a long continuation, the German battleship Bismarck is run by the planes Swordfidh of the Ark Royal , the cruisers Rodney , King George V and Dorsetshire , with 790 miles of Brest in the north of the France, carrying 2.805 sailors.
  • May 28th:

    • the forces of the British and the Commonwealth start to evacuate the Crete.
