Maximilien Vox , of its true name Samuel William Theodore Monod , born the December 16th 1894 with Condé-sur-Noireau and dead the December 18th 1974 with Lurs is an engraver, draftsman, illustrator, editor, journalist, critic art, esthetician and historian of the letter and French Typographie.

Career

It publishes and creates collections of novels, founds and animates newspapers (Micromégas, Caractère, etc), designs advertizing plates, publishes many articles on the whole of the trades of the book, imagines and sets up a teaching model of recognition and identification of the characters and letters which remains today still the only counsel by the International Typographical Association.

In 1952, it founds with Lurs a center of meetings " international meetings of Lure" , where in congress every year the specialists in the whole world of the letter, printing works and the book assemble themselves.

Historian and graphic designer, Vox was in addition a pedagog - he was professor with the École of Louvre like to the École of the Art schools.

Maximilien Vox is also the creator in 1954 of the classification of the typographical characters Vox-AtypI adopted by the commission of the International Typographical Association in 1962. This classification gathers 11 families:
